remarks: the menu and overall desktop appearance can be customized by editing the applications .desktop file (an xml file). the text displayed on the main desktop area is configurable too. in the screen shots most of the content comes from application provided variables. so 'persephone' is the host resp. machine name and 'lep' the name of the current user. the desktop popup menu appears when right clicking the mouse on the empty desktop area.
